Founder and lead strategist

Luke Bright

Luke founded Upscale Digital to give brands direct access to senior Google Ads judgement: measurement first, account ownership kept with the client, and decisions tied to revenue or qualified pipeline rather than platform activity.

Hands-on Google Ads work, without the agency relay race

Luke is an ex-Google specialist who has managed or audited more than 500 accounts across ecommerce, fashion, luxury, insurance and B2B lead generation. He works directly on strategy, account structure, measurement and the commercial decisions that follow from the data.

That distinction matters. A bidding strategy cannot fix duplicated revenue. Performance Max cannot infer product margin from a generic feed. A lower lead cost is not progress when the CRM shows that lead quality has fallen. Luke's work starts by deciding what a useful business outcome is, checking whether Google Ads can measure it reliably, and only then changing campaigns.

Clients retain ownership of their ad accounts, billing, creative and performance history. Recommendations are explained in plain English, including the evidence behind the change and what would cause the decision to be reversed.

Core areas of work

  • Google Ads account strategy and audits
  • Search, Shopping and Performance Max
  • Product feeds and Merchant Center
  • Ecommerce and lead-generation measurement
  • Offline conversion and lead-quality feedback
  • ROAS, margin and budget modelling
  • Paid-traffic landing-page diagnosis

How account decisions are made

The aim is not to make the account look busy. It is to find the constraint, change it deliberately and leave a record that another competent operator can understand.

Verify measurement before optimisation

Primary conversions, values, deduplication, consent and CRM outcomes are checked before automated bidding is trusted. When the data is uncertain, the uncertainty is documented instead of hidden inside a ROAS figure.

Use the lowest useful level of detail

Account averages can conceal a weak product, market, query class or lead source. Analysis moves to the lowest level that supports a decision, but stops before small samples are mistaken for evidence.

Separate diagnosis from treatment

A performance change may come from demand, tracking, inventory, traffic mix, the offer or the landing page. The account is investigated in that order before targets, budgets or structure are changed.

Prefer controlled, reversible changes

Large restructures are sometimes necessary, but they destroy comparison points. Where possible, changes are staged, annotated and reviewed against a pre-agreed commercial threshold.

How Upscale's guides are produced

Luke reviews the site's Google Ads guides for technical accuracy and practical usefulness. Platform instructions are checked against current first-party documentation. Worked examples state their assumptions. Agency comparisons link to the evidence used and disclose that Upscale may be included in the shortlist.

The site does not publish an anonymous anecdote as a case study simply because the client name is confidential. A useful case study needs enough context to assess the starting point, intervention, measurement window and result. When that evidence cannot be published, the site keeps the material as a general guide instead.

Google Ads changes frequently. Each article shows a review date, and material errors can be reported directly to luke@joinupscale.com.

What a reader should expect

  • A clear answer before the long explanation
  • Numbers with assumptions, not universal benchmarks
  • Links to primary sources where the platform defines the rule
  • Limits and trade-offs stated explicitly
  • No invented client stories or unsupported datasets
